08 December 2011
As part of the annual national Archive Awareness Campaign, Highland Archive Centre organised a day event to show case the diversity of the collections held and the services offered. The event, held on 22 October, involved the showing of films of local interest made by local broadcaster and film maker Alison Wilkie, the reading of poems of local interest by local writer, poet & author Donald MacKenzie, the staging of a play "The Eve of Culloden" by local actors, plus talks by the conservation and records management sections of the service, a visit to the Family History Centre and a look at exampoles of original archive material in the archive searchroom. Over 50 members of the public visited the Highland Archive Centre on the day, learnt a good deal about the service and requested further events of a similar nature.
